About Evan the professional
I am passionate about creating websites and using new technology to improve the way we communicate. I can proudly report that I love what I do, and it shows in the quality of my work.
I was born, raised and still reside in San Diego, where my interested in the web began as a hobby in high school. The crown jewel of my accomplishments during that time was a website called “SoCal Skateboarding,” where I posted photos and stories about my friends and our wild skating expeditions. (The website is still online and you can find it with a Google search, but unfortunately it is no longer showcased in my portfolio.) By the time I graduated in 2000, I knew that I wanted to pursue web design as a career.
I went on to enroll in college at UC San Diego, where I double-majored in both Interdisciplinary Computing & the Arts and History. My classes focused more on art theory than practical web design and development so I took it upon myself to study these things on my own.
Thanks to all of my hard work, I was able to land a job doing web design straight out of college in 2004, and I have been working in the industry ever since.
My first two years were spent working for companies that specialize in creating accessible, search-engine-optimized websites for attorneys and medical professionals.
From there, I began working part-time at aaryn.com as a lead web developer (or as I was known in the office, “the make-it-work guy.”) I used my free time to slowly but steadily build up a freelance business of my own. In March of 2009, I took a calculated leap of faith by making a full-time commitment to my freelance business and I have not looked back since. I still collaborate with Aaryn on a variety of projects, but do so remotely from my own home-office.
I now spend my days working directly with clients to create accessible, web-standards-compliant, search-engine-optimized, and generally awesome websites. I also take the time to talk with my clients, to learn and understand their goals, and to use my experience to help turn those goals into reality.
About Evan the not-so-professional
Websites and the internet dominate my life, but I’m just as happy as anyone (or probably more-so) to get away from the computer. When I’m not working I enjoy being outdoors in my neighborhood of Pacific Beach, and spending time with my fiancée, Daniella.
As I alluded to earlier, I used to spend a lot of time skateboarding. I still enjoy the occasional trip over to the Rob Field skatepark, but these days it’s become all about the bicycles. I think I have 7 of them in our garage downstairs but I’ve kind of lost count. I enjoy browsing for them on craigslist, restoring them, tuning them up, and sometimes I actually ride them too.
I also enjoy traveling, reading classic novels, playing guitar and writing (not-so-good) songs, and going to Padres games. I’m a bit of a fish nerd, and I have a couple of tropical fish to keep me company while I work in my home-office.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my website! If there’s something else you’re dying to know about me, just ask.
